Ramakola Makume Mahlatsi is the alumnus of Technikon Witwatersrand (Now University of Johannesburg), having been conferred with a National Diploma in Accounting in 2003, specialising in Financial Accounting and Corporate Law. He was later admitted to the degree of Baccalaureus Legum during the convocation of the senate of the University of South Africa in 2014, where he specialised with Commercial Law and Constitutional Law.
Since joining the Johannesburg Society of Advocates after completion of pupillage in 2016, he has appeared in the High Courts of South Africa, Magistrates Courts; Tax Appeal Court, Constitutional Court, Competition Commission Tribunal; Arbitrations and Commissions of Enquiry, the recent being Zondo Commission on the allegation State Capture; Public Protector of South Africa and Mokgoro Commission on behalf of members of the Cabinet of the Republic of South Africa and Directors-General; and senior members of government.
His area of expertise is civil litigation in Taxation Law, Medical Negligence, Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Commercial Law and Procurement Law; Insolvency Law; Competition Law and Municipality Law.
He was appointed as a Chairperson of the Tax Board by the Minister of Finance in terms of section 111 of the Tax Administration Act to hear Income Tax Appeals on 14 December 2018, and has since published judgments in that regard.
His practice is mostly around Motion and Trial work. He is involved from strategic level of conceptualising prosecution of any matter, drafting pleadings, affidavits; heads of argument and ultimately presentation of a case in different fora. He more than ten years of experience gained from various employment in Banking; Tourism; Real Estate industries prior to practicing law for a living. In sum, he practices only fine dining law.
