Anisa Kessery has 25 years of experience in competition law, which she gained from her roles as an associate in the competition law departments of leading law firms in South Africa and from her employment with the competition authorities of South Africa.
Anisa started her career in competition law with the Commission in 2000 where she worked for more than 11 years, in various roles, including Investigator, Strategic Relations Coordinator in the Commissioner’s Office, Acting Company Secretary, Senior Legal Counsel, Principal Legal Counsel and Manager of Litigation. She left the Commission to become an advocate in 2018.
Anisa has appeared in the Competition Tribunal, Competition Appeal Court, High Courts of South Africa and Namibia, Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa and the Constitutional Court.
In October 2022, she was appointed as a Special Competition Law Counsel at the Competition Tribunal and was appointed as an acting part-time member of the Tribunal by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, effective 1 January 2024. She served in this role until October 2024 when she returned to her full-time practice as an advocate.
